Tara, Misu & their Just Desserts (Ch. 1)

Tara walked out of the testing center, and ran to her car to read the results of her CISS (Campbell Interest and Skill Survey) Individual Profile Report. “Finally! I can figure out what direction to take my life,” she thought.

As she closed the car door, and started looking through the papers, her two year old daughter Shalimar woke up, and started crying. Tara glanced in the backseat and asked her son to give the baby her cup.

Patrick said, “Mom, she is soaked through her diaper and pants. We better go home and change her before we go to group.”

“I guess I can wait a few more hours to get on with my life,” thought Tara, as she pulled out of the parking lot and headed down the hill to her apartment.

Just as she was walking out the door, the phone rang and Tara sent Shali down to the car with her brother.

“This is LDS Hospital with a collect call from Anne Misu. Will you accept?”
Tara sighed, and went to the door to let Patrick know they would be missing group that night. She knew it would take several moments for Anne to just say hello. Her high school friend had recently suffered a stroke, and it had been a miracle that she had recovered so quickly. She was now able to walk with a cane, but her speech was still slurred and she had to search for the right words quite often.

As Tara hung up the phone, she rubbed her ear and rolled her head in a circle to relieve the tension of the last three hours. Anne sounded so upbeat on the phone, but after all the problems she had been through, Tara was sure there were some things her friend just kept hidden deep inside.

After brushing her teeth, writing in her journal, and saying her nightly prayers, Tara drifted off to sleep thinking about how much both of their lives had changed over the last twenty years.
